Natural hair has been a part of my identity for over 20 years. My first hairstyle was a fade that I wore for nearly two years, after which I decided to grow my hair out. Since I didn’t know any other hairstyles, my little afro held me down between sets of braids. I aimed to grow my hair out and wear it straight once it got long. Then, I discovered the natural hair message boards, which opened a new world of hair care for me. Using sites like MoTownGirl, Nappturality, and Long Hair Care Forum provided me with the tools to experiment with hairstyles and care for my hair with a focus on health.
During that time, I grew as a person, and part of that growth was people’s reactions to my natural hair. Ever since that first fade, people have talked about my hair and asked me questions about caring for natural hair. Eventually, I decided to share that knowledge online, first through blogging and then through YouTube videos.
I’ve long since stopped viewing my hair care as a journey. My knowledge of styling and care continues to grow, but I mastered my hair YEARS ago. Until now, when I’ve decided to embark on a new and unknown hair care journey.
